Empowering Super Girls in Science: A Partnership with Judith MacGregor, the AAUW, and FGCU Heroes
At New Horizons of SWFL, we’re passionate about inspiring the next generation of leaders. Our partnership with Judith MacGregor, the American Association of University Women (AAUW), and Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU) has been making a profound impact on our students for over five years.

Judith MacGregor is a true champion for girls in science. A toxicologist and scientist, she’s also a member of the AAUW and a dedicated New Horizons volunteer and supporter. For more than five years, Judith has worked tirelessly with us to provide science kits to 4th and 5th grade girls at every New Horizons site. These kits spark curiosity and show girls that they can excel in science, technology, engineering, arts, and math (STEAM).
Judith emphasizes that women are underrepresented in science, and starting early is key to changing that. Her commitment to empowering young girls is truly inspiring.
The AAUW has been a powerful advocate for women’s equity for over 140 years. Through their local chapter, they raise funds to provide science kits that encourage young girls to explore scientific careers. FGCU further strengthens this initiative by donating bags to carry the kits, supporting young scientists in our community.
The kits, part of our STEAM program, include two KiwiCo science kits, the inspiring book “Girls Can Do Anything”, and videos featuring local women in science. These resources help girls see the endless possibilities before them and envision themselves as future scientists.
For more than five years, New Horizons has benefited from this partnership. While the kits are specifically designed for girls, we serve both boys and girls, ensuring that every child has the opportunity to explore science.

Judith’s enthusiasm is contagious: “We’re not stopping anytime soon. Our mission is to continue inspiring future generations of women scientists.” With the support of Judith MacGregor, the AAUW, and FGCU, our young girls are receiving the tools, inspiration, and encouragement they need to become the scientists and leaders of tomorrow. This partnership ensures that the future is in capable hands.
A Lasting Impact
Our collaboration with Judith MacGregor, the AAUW, and FGCU has created a lasting impact on our community. By empowering young girls in science, we’re shaping a brighter future for everyone. We’re grateful for the dedication and passion of our partners and look forward to continuing this important work.
